Noahide Life

As Noahides, there is a lot of discretion in how we live our daily lives.  Men are not required to pray three times a day, married women are not required to cover their hair, we are not require to observe Shabbot, in fact, we are actually prohibited from observing Shabbot as a Jew does.  However, for the sake of fostering a sense of community and commonality among Noahides, it is important that we, as a group, begin developing our own customs and traditions.

This section of Noahide Life attempts to provide a type of framework or suggestions for individuals, families, and Noahide communities trying to establish their own customs and traditions while hopefully helping to foster a sense of community and commonality amoung practicing Noahides.

It is important to remember the Torah’s prohibition against creating a new religion.  Rabbi Moshe Weiner in The Divine Code writes, “The general rule is that it is forbidden for a Gentile (an individual, and certainly a community which observes the Noahide Code) to add precepts from another religion or create a commandment based on his own decision.” pg. 65.

Thus, even though we are permitted to create customs and traditions as positive expressions of our faith, we cannot declare that such customs or traditions are mandatory.

Therefore, we will do our best to identify those things that are actual laws and provide sources.
